Pre-Production Tips
The Checklist I Use for Every Shoot to Ensure Nothing Is Left to Chance
Every successful shoot begins long before the camera is turned on. Pre-production is the foundation that ensures creativity can flow without interruption. Over time, I have developed a checklist that guides me through each project, allowing me to anticipate challenges and create with confidence.

Clarify the Vision
I begin by defining the purpose of the shoot. What story are we telling? Who is the audience? Establishing a clear vision ensures that every decision—from location to styling—aligns with the narrative.

Scout and Secure Locations
Natural light, accessibility, and atmosphere all play a role in shaping the final image. I visit locations in advance, noting how light shifts throughout the day and identifying potential obstacles. This preparation allows me to adapt quickly on the day of the shoot.

Organize Equipment
From cameras and lenses to batteries and backup memory cards, I create a detailed inventory. Nothing disrupts momentum more than technical issues, so I double-check that all gear is functional and packed.
Coordinate with the Team
Whether working with clients, models, or stylists, communication is essential. I confirm schedules, share mood boards, and outline expectations. This ensures that everyone arrives prepared and aligned with the creative direction.

Prepare Contingencies
Even with careful planning, surprises arise. I always build in extra time, carry backup gear, and prepare alternative setups. Flexibility is part of professionalism, and contingencies safeguard the integrity of the shoot.
Pre-production is not about eliminating spontaneity—it is about creating the conditions in which spontaneity can thrive. By following this checklist, I ensure that no detail is overlooked, and every shoot begins with clarity, confidence, and purpose.
